Paying it Forward in Tough Times

2020 was a wild year for the world, for this country, and this community. Deanna Williams, owner of The Trendy Trunk, experienced it first-hand while navigating how to run a small business during a global pandemic. The boutique has been open and serving Sumner County since 2007 and has always prioritized giving back to the incredible community that has always supported her business.

Unfortunately, the effects of 2020 caused the business to be unable to make the donations, participate in local auctions, and support the community’s schools the way it has in years past. As she was learning how to keep her dream alive during COVID, Deanna recognized that there were so many other members of the community doing the very same thing and knew she wanted to do something to help. She worked closely with Karen Mitchell, VP of Resource Development & Exec. Dir. of College Foundation at Vol State Community College, to create the Trendy Trunk Scholarship.

The scholarship aims to help students who are overcoming overwhelming obstacles to continue their dream of an education. The first recipient was granted to a student working towards supporting women in the justice system battling hurdles like mental health and substance use. The Trendy Trunk is proud to be able to contribute to this student’s dreams and very much looks forward to providing aid & hope to students for years to come.
