Becca Stevens is a force to be reckoned with. After experiencing the death of her father and subsequent child abuse when she was 5, Becca longed to open a sanctuary for survivors offering a loving community. Becca's hope for a global movement for women’s freedom began with Thistle Farms’ first residential home.
In 1997, five women who had experienced trafficking, violence, and addiction were welcomed home. Thistle Farms’ first house was just the beginning. Four years later, the women were making great strides in recovery, but struggling to become financially self-sufficient due to employment barriers. To address this, Becca, volunteers, and residents began making candles in a church basement and, in 2001, Thistle Farms social enterprises were born.
Today Thistle Farms provides housing, case management, healthcare, counseling, education, and employment for two years - free of charge. They provide meaningful employment through their 3 social enterprises- Body & Home, The Café, and Global Shared Trade - provide both gateway and permanent jobs for survivors, as well revenue for their mission.
Becca Stevens didn't stop at Thistle Farms. She is an author of over 10 books and she has helped establish 10 justice initiatives and raised more than $55M for their funding. Becca spends half the year on the road, speaking to non-profit, religious, and business audiences. Her joy is to inspire mission, compassion, and action!
